AWARDS for Angels Beach Dunecare Group - Congratulations

Angels Beach Dunecare Group has won the PLANET ARK ENDANGERED ECOSYSTEMS INAUGURAL AWARD. This national award consists of a trophy, the Saving Endangered Ecosystems trophy, and a cash prize of $500.
The award was won by Angels Beach for its contribution to the reinstatement of Littoral (Coastal) Rainforest between Black Head and Flat Rock, East Ballina. The trophy and award were presented at a public ceremony in April 2007.

CLEAN BEACH CHALLENGE TWO STATE AWARDS:
Angels Beach itself received the Top State Award for COMMUNITY ACTION for its engagement with the community in restoring and conserving its 70 hectares of dunes, forests and wetlands.
Angels Beach Dunecarers as a Group also took out State Runner Up in the YOUNG LEGENDS AWARD. This is awarded to those beaches boasting outstanding youth and educational initiatives.

The above mentioned awards are the direct result of thousands of hours of work by the present band of dedicated volunteers; however, none of it would be possible without the decade and a half of their predecessors' labours, and the visionary planning and initiatives taken by the founders of Dune Care on the Ballina Coast.
Regular and occasional volunteers are always needed to help with this work. No experience is needed and all skills are acquired through doing the job. Those interested should phone 6681 3557 for information about how to become a Dunecarer.

WWF/THREATENED SPECIES NETWORK GRANT

Angels Beach Dunecare is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant of over $3000 under the World Wide Fund for Nature/Threatened Species Network Scheme to continue Littoral Rainforest restoration on Angels Beach. The grant is to be spent during 2006-2007 on revegetating and fencing an area beside the Coast Road south of the Overpass Bridge and north of the Beach Carpark.

The work will enhance and protect the habitat of the endangered Perfumed Acronychia, Stinking Laurels, White Lace Flower and many small stands of remnant Littoral Rainforest. The grant will assist in funding the 2007 Planet Ark National Tree Day planting event which will be held on this site near the end of Bayview Drive next July.
